Hospital Admission :(

Yes, you read it right... Abbey is in the hospital. We're as surprised as you are. Yesterday morning she woke up with a fever and if you've been following our story, you know that whenever she gets a fever we immediately need to bring her to the hospital. Even though she's done with treatment you ask? Yes. For now. Abbey still has her port in her chest and until that comes out, they always have to be very cautious when she gets a fever in case it's a bacterial infection in her blood (an infection in the blood like that is more common when a person has a port in their body). Her immune system is still low (it will take some time to come back up to normal) so they are playing it safe by watching her through this illness.

So, once at the ER yesterday, she started getting worse with throwing up and chills so at that point they decided to admit her. Jim brought her yesterday morning and I stayed home with the boys, but by late afternoon I couldn't stand not being here to know what was going on every second so we switched and I am now at the hospital with her.

Abbey hasn't been admitted to the hospital in over 15 months. I can't even begin to describe the rush of emotions that I felt as we walked back on this floor. It's somewhere I thought we'd never be again, yet being here is in a way comforting as I know she is being cared for well. I'm glad to be on this end of the journey as it doesn't seem like very long ago that we were just starting out and we had such a long road ahead. This too shall pass and we will hopefully be home soon.

She's still running fevers and has a really bad cough. I don't know if I've ever heard a cough so bad and constant. Pretty much every time she breaths in, she coughs out. Just listening to her is exhausting. She hasn't thrown up any more since the ER and other then her fever and cough she's acting pretty normal. She's eating, playing, watching cartoons and coloring.

Not sure what the plan is for today. We are very much hoping that they'll let us go home today. We are waiting for the doctors to do their rounds (which should be any time) and we'll know more then.

Jim is working today and my sister (whom I don't know what we'd do without) is home with the boys (whom we are very much missing!!). We'll keep you posted on our little patient!
