The last couple days have been hard for us.  Although Abbey's numbers are good, she is getting sicker from all the medication that she is on.  The last two days it is rare for her to be off the couch or to see a smile on her face.  The medication that she is taking most is the steroid and there are many side effects.  They told us that children on this steroid have personality changes and it has been very hard for us to see our sweet, happy Abbey not be herself at all.  She is very swollen and having pain in her fingers and pressure in her eyes.  We are struggling as we watch her suffer.  Please pray as we get through one more week of the steroids.  She will be stopping that medication at the end of the month for the time being (she will be on and off it for the whole treatment), but will be starting another medication for the month of November and we are praying that it will be a little easier for her body to handle.  Her hair is also really starting to come out today.  We aren't sure exactly what our next step should be with this and are kind of just waiting until we have to take it off.  It's hard.  

We find ourselves talking about the past and longing for things to just be normal again.  We always have enjoyed going to fall festivals this time of year and bundling up on cold days to go out and play in the leaves.  Abbey had just started a tap class on Friday mornings a few weeks before she was diagnosed and it's hard on Fridays to be sitting in a clinic where she's hooked up to an I.V. instead of watching her jump around with her tap shoes on and be a three year old. We miss watching her and Jacob ride around in his jeep with big smiles on their faces.  We miss normal and it hurts. 

This is hard to write as I'm sure it's hard to read, but we need to be honest as we go through this journey and we're asking you to continue to pray for us and especially Abbey.  Our hearts are so heavy right now.    

Tomorrow is her treatment day so we will be at the Ireland Cancer Center at 10a.m. She will have her port accessed for them to draw blood to see if she needs platelets or blood and then she will get a dose of chemo.  The thought of more medication in her little body is hard to imagine right now.  Please pray for a peace for her and us as we go through our day tomorrow and strength for the remainder of this month.

i am so encouraged by your honesty and courage. we'll be praying especially for everything tomorrow. i've told my 3 year old and my 4 year old about Abigail being sick and every night when we pray together, they always volunteer to pray for her and talk about her like they know her and love her!! And my daughter has something to send to her, can you email me your address when you have a chance?? delapenafamily@comcast.net

Thank you for keeping us all aware and letting us help bear this burden with you. You are love and you are not alone. I wish to God I had great answers for you in all this. Though my past hurts pale in comparison to what you guys are dealing with... I do know from my experience that God will redeem this time. I cant offer much in the way of words that would take away the hurt, but I would be happy to sit and cry with you any time.

Tonight at dinner Danille prayed and her words were this "Please help Abbey to be strong and know that Jesus is in her heart and He loves her" thanks for being honest with us so we can pray harder for you guys as you go through this hard time. We are crying and hurting with you. We will pray for strength and for the peace of our loving Father to embrace your family.

We want you to know that each night, each morning and all through the day, you are all in our thoughts and prayers.
God is good and he loves Abby,Jake, Micah and you both. We pray that God continues to wrap his loving and healing arms around all of you. I told Jim last Friday that God gave me a word to pray for the both of you, and that was 'endure' or 'endurance'. Know that I have been praying for strength for you both. Our hearts are heavy with yours but you can lean on us for help. We (and I mean all of us who are praying) will stand in the gap for the two of you! People are praying aroung the country for you! And I don't think I'd be way off to say that you are probably being covered in prayer around the clock! I hope that you are comforted in that knowledge! You are all so loved! We are praying for you!

I wrote this on your facebook too--this week the kids have been praying for Abbey more regularly, without prompting. The other day, Keith asked to pray before we ate lunch. He bowed his head and prayed, "Lord, please help Abbey to feel better. Please keep her Mommy and Daddy safe from monsters. Amen." Shelley--we do pray that you'd be kept safe from the monsters of fear, doubt, defeat. Thank you for your incredible example during this time. We love you!
